The Life Church of Des Plaines

Isaiah 2:3 “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of theLord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of theLordfrom Jerusalem.”

Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force. That doesn’t sound very Christian if you don’t understand it. It sounds like Jesus is promoting aggression and violence, chaos. How can that be what the Kingdom of Heaven allows?

Are there passages in the Bible that you don’t understand? Are you willing to ask God to explain them to you? Why or why not?

The meaning is the Kingdom of Heaven allows passion. It’s alright to be excited for Jesus. It’s alright to…

The Word: Part 2-Spirit & Truth

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Jer 31:33 “But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

New covenant with the law in our hearts making us His people.

Eze 36:25-27 “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments…

Word: Part 1

The Life Church of Des Plaines

John 1:1-2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2  The same was in the beginning with God.”

Rom 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

How much do you love the Word of God? Do you read His Word every day? Do you allow it to challenge you and change you? Do you find wisdom, comfort and rest in it?

We would do better if everyone had a tremendous respect for the Word of God.

When called to preach, it’s vital to study the Word. This Word is precious. Loving the Word will change you from the inside out. You can’t love God if you don’t love His Word.

The Word…

His Eye Is On the Sparrow

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Mat 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

Luke 12:6-7 “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

What does it matter that Jesus knows how many hairs are on your head? The point isn’t that He’s got them numbered. The point is that He’s that careful and He knows where you’re at and where you’re going and He knows all about your situation.

The song, His Eye Is On the Sparrow was written by a lady and her…

The Blessing of Emptiness

The Life Church of Des Plaines

2 Kings 4:1 “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.”

This poor woman’s husband had died leaving her and her sons with debt. The creditors were going to take her sons until the debt was paid off. So, she went to the prophet Elisha.

2 Kings 4:2 “And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.”

He asked that because he was concerned about what she still had. What do you have that God can use?

2 King 4:3-4 “Then he said…
