It’s Not Common

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Peter's_vision_of_the_sheet_with_animalsActs 10:9-20 “The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 14 But Peter said, ‘Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.’ 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 16 This was done…

Dream Catchers

The Life Church of Des Plaines

BelieveGen 28:10-22 “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: ‘I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the…

An Open Door Bible Study

God has an open door for you. Fight to go through! You’re never alone!

The Life Church of Des Plaines

open doorRev 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”

1 Cor 16:9 “For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.”

There is an abundant opportunity for usefulness. God opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. They now had an opportunity to express faith.

2 Cor 2:12 “Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,”

What ‘doors’ have been opened for you? How did the Lord work out the details? Did you have to fight to go through those doors? How was the ‘other side’?

It’s good if you don’t understand Scripture to seek it out. Figure it out. Study to show yourself approved…

Grafted_blossoming_tree_unidentified_white_pinkJohn 15:1-8 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If…

Three Things that Bother the Devil

The Life Church of Des Plaines

2000px-Coat_of_Arms_of_Moscow.svgJames 2:19 “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”

Mark 6:4-5 “Then Jesus told them, ‘A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.’ 5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them.”

v5 KJV: “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.”

What is it about God that terrifies the devil? Why does our unbelief affect whether or not we’ll experience a miracle?

The first thing that bothers the devil is the revelation of the one true God. Before there ever was a mountain or sea or river, there was…

Your Way or God’s Way? Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

mordor follow meHeb 11:21 “By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.”

Jacob had faith in God to bless his grandchildren, even on his deathbed.

What kind of faith did Jacob have to trust God, even on his deathbed? What were his priorities in that he was concerned for his children, rather than thinking about himself at his death?

‘Leaning upon the top of his staff.’ Why does Scripture say this?

Gen 25:29-34 “And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what…

‘Let’s Get to the Bottom of It’ Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

397618389_7a5c9fec57_b1 Cor 3:9-13 “For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building. 10 Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.”

We must have a revelation of the mighty God in Christ. There is no such thing as two gods or three gods. There is only one.

Deuteronomy 6:4-6 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone…
