The Roaring Lion Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Antoine-Louis_Barye_-_Lion_and_Serpent_-_Walters_378291 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Has the devil ever tried to use your past against you?

You don’t even try to ask God to help you because you got into this mess, you’re going to have to get yourself out. This is coming from the devil. Satan is the accuser, a finger-pointer.

The roar of a lion strikes fear into smaller animals, into larger animals, because they know what comes next. That roar stuns its prey.

In the Bible verse, Peter said to be sober (thought process), be vigilant (to be on your guard, watchful, attentive). Be on the lookout to make sure there is no enemy that can gain entry into your residence, the residence of your mind.

Don’t ignore this or let your guard down. Don’t assume everything is all…

Complete in Him

God wants to bless you. This is His will for you!

Heart Pic (labeled for reuse)1 Thes 5:23-24 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”

What does it mean to you to be whole or complete in God?

The word ‘whole’ means, ‘all, entire, complete, or completeness, the essence of being whole or complete.’ Paul prayed that we would be complete or sanctified, well in spirit, emotions, thoughts, and bodies.

God is faithful and He will do it.

To be whole is ‘containing all components, complete, not divided, wounded or impaired, to be sound or unhurt.’ It is ‘a system of interrelated parts.’

Jesus has made you whole or complete. But, what does that mean?

The Biblical meaning is this: ‘complete sanctification or restoration in body, soul, and spirit…

God Sized Vision

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Stairs to Success by suphakit732 Kings 2:9-10 “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.”

It was a hard thing Elisha asked, but Elijah’s reply, ‘If you see me when I’m taken…’ Another translation of that is, ‘If you can see the way I see…’

How does Elijah (and Elisha) ‘see’? Does that differ from the way you see? How?

Eph 3:20 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more…

Continue to Be That Person

The Life Church of Des Plaines

tim-wright-174124Gal 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Rom 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

What does it mean to ‘walk in the Spirit?’ What will happen when you are that person?

Photo by Tim Wright on Unsplash

When you ‘become that person,’ The Lord works with us, with signs following.

Mark 16:17-20 “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20…

Between Ancestors and Descendants

The Life Church of Des Plaines

danielle-macinnes-88493Think of someone you consider godly. Why? What is it about that person’s character that makes him or her godly?

Josh 24:15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

You’re either going to do what your ancestors have done, what the people around you are doing, or serve the Lord. But, YOU need to choose.

1 Tim 3:4-5 “One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)”

Children matter…

Forty Years of Faithfulness

Never take for granted the fact that we are free to enter into God’s presence!

The Life Church of Des Plaines

zed-kolk-43128Do you remember a time when you couldn’t wait to grow up so you could drive a car? Did Mom or Dad let you sit on the lawn mower and ‘help’ drive? Did you ever get into the car and pretend to drive?

Acts 3:2 “And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;”

As Jews, Peter and John had been taught that going to the temple was the most important thing in their lives. The temple represents the presence of God. You’re to breathe it. You will experience majesty, and glory, and power.

This lame man had been sitting at this temple every day begging. Once in a while, he turned and looked inside to see what was happening. The problem was any…

The Breath of Life

A new look at the Day of Pentecost…

The Life Church of Des Plaines

fernando-brasil-103271What is one decision you’ve made that has forever changed your life? How?

Gen 1:1,3 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

Is 46:9 “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”

Rev 13:8 “…the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

That means that God saw eternity before time began. No matter how bad things got, how bad He knew things would be, He still said, ‘Let there be Light!’

It broke His heart that His own didn’t even know Him. Yet He still said, Let there be…
