Three Things that Bother the Devil

The Life Church of Des Plaines

2000px-Coat_of_Arms_of_Moscow.svgJames 2:19 “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.”

Mark 6:4-5 “Then Jesus told them, ‘A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.’ 5 And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them.”

v5 KJV: “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.”

What is it about God that terrifies the devil? Why does our unbelief affect whether or not we’ll experience a miracle?

The first thing that bothers the devil is the revelation of the one true God. Before there ever was a mountain or sea or river, there was…

Your Way or God’s Way? Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

mordor follow meHeb 11:21 “By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.”

Jacob had faith in God to bless his grandchildren, even on his deathbed.

What kind of faith did Jacob have to trust God, even on his deathbed? What were his priorities in that he was concerned for his children, rather than thinking about himself at his death?

‘Leaning upon the top of his staff.’ Why does Scripture say this?

Gen 25:29-34 “And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what…

‘Let’s Get to the Bottom of It’ Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

397618389_7a5c9fec57_b1 Cor 3:9-13 “For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building. 10 Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. 12 Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.”

We must have a revelation of the mighty God in Christ. There is no such thing as two gods or three gods. There is only one.

Deuteronomy 6:4-6 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone…

Are You Ready for the Storm?

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Joseph_Mallord_William_Turner_-_Snow_Storm,_Hannibal_and_his_Army_Crossing_the_Alps_-_WGA23167Job 37:5-13 “God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. 6 For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. 7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work. 8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places. 9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north. 10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. 11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud: 12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. 13 He causeth it to come, whether for…

Consider the Miracle of the Loaves

The Life Church of Des Plaines

loaf of breadMark 6:37-44 “He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? 38 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. 39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. 40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. 41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. 42 And they did all eat, and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of…

Everything Is Going to Be All Right

The Life Church of Des Plaines

embracing the rainEcc 8:11-14 “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. 12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: 13 But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. 14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.”

Why is it easy to trust God when things are going well and…

The Roaring Lion Bible Study

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Antoine-Louis_Barye_-_Lion_and_Serpent_-_Walters_378291 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

Has the devil ever tried to use your past against you?

You don’t even try to ask God to help you because you got into this mess, you’re going to have to get yourself out. This is coming from the devil. Satan is the accuser, a finger-pointer.

The roar of a lion strikes fear into smaller animals, into larger animals, because they know what comes next. That roar stuns its prey.

In the Bible verse, Peter said to be sober (thought process), be vigilant (to be on your guard, watchful, attentive). Be on the lookout to make sure there is no enemy that can gain entry into your residence, the residence of your mind.

Don’t ignore this or let your guard down. Don’t assume everything is all…
