The Tree and the Twig

The Life Church of Des Plaines

trees and twigs2 Tim 1:5 “I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.”

True discipleship is reproducing what you are. We become who we follow and then help others to become like us. Help us to follow Christ, to put on the mind of Christ, every day, every hour, every moment of every day.

Raise your children versus training your children. When you raise animals, all you have to do is feed them and protect them. You have to train up a child which is more than merely raising.

Prov 22:6 “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”

Just as the twig is bent, so grows the tree. As a child is trained, so will he or she mature.

Captain Caveman

The Life Church of Des Plaines

caveJesus is familiar with the pit, that downtrodden, lonely place. Jesus died like a sinner. He went down into the pit, the belly of the earth, the judgment of God, the absence of God. What happens when God enters hell? They hand Him the keys! He can go in and out of your situation anytime He wants. He is not far at all. He’s familiar with the pit. If you shut Him out, don’t. Let Him in.

If you make the declaration that you are in a pit right now, that honesty allows God to work a miracle in your life. You can be transformed. He is an on-time, ever-present, all-knowing God. He has been in the fire. Those three Hebrew children (they were men, really) and went into the fire of judgment because they refused to bow to another god. Not only did they not get burned, their bonds…

Walk in Mercy

The Life Church of Des Plaines

walkingJohn 5:2-9 “Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. 5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’ 7 The sick man answered Him, ‘Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but…

The Law of the Increase

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Camille_Pissarro_-_The_HarvestGal 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

The Law of the Harvest, Reaping and Sowing, Increase—Spiritually and Naturally, the natural actually mimics the Spirit. All of us want to be disciples of Jesus, but we need to know how.

There is a law of increase or harvest. If you can apply the natural ways of agriculture, there is a concept that’s easy to grasp. The basics of sowing and reaping can be applied to the spirit and discipleship. You have to understand that you won’t get anywhere with God if you don’t give something. You won’t receive if you give nothing.

Have you ever been on a farm?…

Jesus is for Kings and Shepherds

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Lamb_first_steps_(edited)Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

The Christmas story is so powerful. It’s found in both Matthew and Luke.

Luke 2:8-20 “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there…

It’s Not Common

The Life Church of Des Plaines

Peter's_vision_of_the_sheet_with_animalsActs 10:9-20 “The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, ‘Rise, Peter; kill and eat.’ 14 But Peter said, ‘Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.’ 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, ‘What God has cleansed you must not call common.’ 16 This was done…

Dream Catchers

The Life Church of Des Plaines

BelieveGen 28:10-22 “Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: ‘I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the…
